THE MOST LAUGHABLE GOSSIPS ABOUT RAW FOOD LIFESTYLE – PART TWO.
Few weeks ago I had a little pleasure to read one of the most popular Polish magazines.
I am not sure if I want to mention its name now. I’ve loved this magazine since forever. I’ve adored it for everything it does and specially for not taking the simplest, easiest path in writing. No superficial or cocky mindset.
And there it this ! In June, an article about my favorite subject – raw foods !
How astonished I felt all of a sudden, how relieved in feeling that my beloved country, Poland is actually catching up.
That was my first glance.
Right after came doubt. My intuition told me that because there is a picture of a woman wearing a rabbit mask, the article might be not so hot after all. I started feeling a small chip in my Polish heart and kept reading.
The article is relatively short, half of a page. This woman in a rabbit mask is holding a carrot. Like there is nothing else what could relate to a rawfoodie. At least she is lying on a bed of grass. And my own Rawvolta girl on my website presents a carrot also( along with lots of greens though).
Ok, forgiven then. We need to think through cliche sometimes to provide an absorbable content.
Carrot then!
The title of the article says : Fashion for Raw. Right after reading a title I felt like I’m one of the raw food celebrities – Aloha!
The magazine, in short, states that :
- America has gotten insane about the raw food diet
- the author assumes that a raw food diet might not be a good choice for overall health
- lycopene is not active in a raw food
- pregnant woman, children and old people can’t use a strict raw food diet
- raw food diet makes the bones weaker and is related to osteoporosis
- lack of iron ( she is not mentioning in what) is a cause of anemia
- Woody Harrelson wrote a book : “Living Cuisine “
- we wouldn’t have a skill to make a fire if the nature woudn’t want us to cook the meals
If I wouldn’t know anything about raw food lifestyle, I would probably read this article and make another lasagna.
God saved me though and gave me my own will and no matter what I read, I won’t believe till I check.
I’m guessing – totally opposite routine than the sweet author lady’s .
This article, again, half of a page of ASSUMPTIONS, presented to me a simple list of possible gossips.
I am now going to tear them apart, pack in the male a shiny, sticky box and send them back to my beloved Poland, country of the word ; “NO”.
2nd LAUGHABLE GOSSIP ABOUT RAW FOOD LIFESTYLE :
“ANOTHER WEIRD DIET IN A COUNTRY OF CHEVY “.
My, maybe Carnivore friend, Lady Author!
First of all – America and her crazieness!
America had to go insane about raw food diet because that’s the only way to stop giving away power to McDonald’s and other fast food services.
America had to go insane about raw food diet also because it is overweight, depressed, has difficulties walking, focusing at school and in making its own basic decisions. It really can’t be anywhere in between. The problem is so extreme that it brought the country to the idea of naming itself as the Fast Food Nation. With no regrets!
It is so simple. Sometimes to speak the little, silent truth is not enough. Sometimes it has to be a bullet between the eyes.
In some sense Olive Garden is on the other side of McDonald’s. But it is a very weak, non-organic bullet we are looking for. It is obviously not enough for somebody who seeks the best health ever. It had to be a revolution so people will rediscover what mother earth produces to take back their life into their own hands full of lifefood.
Regarding my country, Poland is still relatively “clean” and I personally, was raised on a Gramma’s grown food. Even if I wasn’t a vegan at that time ( I was mostly vegetarian for all my life ), nothing I was eating was GMO’d ( although GMO isn’t the best name for whatever they do to the food, because it is not modified, but engineered ). Also, I was getting plenty of raw foods every day. Of course Poland is getting closer to the food model of western countries and of course that is very SAD. Maybe, one day Poland name their diet the SPD
( Some Prefer Death !?) .
Whenever there is a word “FASHION” or “TREND” used related to some action people take, there is a group of us which will intuitively say “NO !”. No matter if the idea has good or bad intentions. Shamely, I am one of these people sometimes. This is another cage for us to be caught in. The cage of Anti-fashion, which is basically the other side of the same coin of habitual behaviors.
We, Poland, even if we won’t agree loudly, are jealous of Americas goodies. Polish TV speaks for itself.
Some trends are better, others suck. And yes, it is our personal decision what we eat.
The only real logical choice we all can make is to consciously choose a long, healthy, happy life. Sounds unrealistic? Not to me. Not for these thousands of people I meet at raw food retreats. And I am telling you now, these are the most smiley, sexy, vibrant, great looking people I’ve ever met.
And it’s only because they DECIDED TO BE SO.
When I see sometimes these funny billboards of ..well..carnivor restaurants saying:” Vegetarians can enjoy the decor “, I always smile and think to myself :Somebody really must have had lost their head here..
A cute lamb or the owner, doesn’t matter at this point.
But I clap a bravo to the copywriter!
Now, whatever you call the raw food lifestyle ( a “rabbit diet” or “dangerous diet” ) I want some proof. I want you, Ms. Author of this article or anybody who agrees with her thesis, present the living proof of a raw food diet’s poor influence on an overall health. I am not asking you to give me just nutrition facts ( I know them really well ), but what I am asking is you to show me your experience on raw food diet.
What I don’t like about this article and similar ones, are the misconceptions they put in the minds of innocent people. Besides the disinformation ( Woody Harrelson only wrote the introduction to Renée Loux Underkoffler’s book ) , they also say : ” We know, don’t go there “. And many of us will not , because we are afraid that we have to go there ALONE. Risky, ha?
If, Ms. Carnivore Author would experiment with a vegan raw food diet for some time, have gotten very very sick because of it and then wrote the brilliant article – fine.
We could then discover the challenges and what went wrong.
But, for God sake, only thinking sometimes is not enough when we are giving to people life and health advise.
So, the last but not least, the gossip about America going crazy about the raw food diet is true.
I am very happy that Poland, the country of cabbage and sausage is at least aware of it.
Maybe it’s time to turn the TV off and plant another apple tree in the back yard. Like we used to.
