YAMS AND ONIONS – SUNDAY SNACKS!

Yams are more natural and not hybridized as a regular potato.

Yam is:

  • Low in Saturated Fat, Sodium
  • High in Vitamin C, Fiber, Vitamin B6, Vitamin K, Potassium and Manganese

I have never had a chance to try them in Poland and I instantly fell in love with them in US.

As we know cooked starch becomes a sugar due to loosing it’s natural fiber.

But if you dehydrate them, you are keeping the fiber and nutrients.

Sunday – my snack day!

RECIPE :

  • 3 big yams cut into halves, so I can send them through food processor and have shapes like the ones below :

For Marinade :

  • olive oil
  • water from soaked dried tomato
  • 2 dry tomato
  • sea salt, pepper, rosemary, dill

And of course you can manipulate this recipe as much as you like !

Because I had some  marinade leftover, I cut the onion and bath her;-) in the remaining oil. Plus I added more pepper and some nutritional yeast.

Dehydrate for 8 hours.

TIP : To really nicely coat your yams with the marinade, you can use a square/rectangular dish and build up some layers. Glaze your marinade over each of your layer. You can the yams them sit for half an hour.

If you are interested in the outcome of my SUNDAY SNACK , please, visit in 10 hours, once the snack is ready and warm!

Cheers!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK : COCONUT CURRY SOUP

Because of the fall time in Midwest, I want a warm soup today!

Most of us think that raw food recipes are always cold. It is mostly truth, but you can “adjust” them to your needs.

One way to warm up the food is by using ceramic pot on very low temperature and all you have to do is use a finger as a thermometer; it should be warm enough to give a pleasant feeling but cold enough to allow you stick your tissue in!

The other way to feel the warmth of the food is to use a dehydrator as a heating tool. Again, it protects all the goodies from being destroyed by the extremal cooking.

My favorite soup recipe I am going to present to you is:

Coconut Curry Chowder

2 servings :

Ingredients for blending :

  • 1 or two coconuts ( depends on their water content )
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • ginger root ( close to 2 inches ) or 2 Tsp of minced
  • juice of half of a lemon
  • 2 dates
  • 1 tsp curry powder
  • 1 Tsp turmeric
  • half or 1 jalapeno pepper
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • cilantro ( I usually use half of a bunch )

Blend everything to a creamy consistency.

Chop :

  • 2 stalks of celery
  • 2 stalks of leeks
  • 1 carrot ( round )
  • shiitake mushrooms
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 avocado

HOW TO :

You might want to have a warm soup this time a year.

Put all the blended cream into ceramic pot and warm it on a low heat ( stick your finger after a while to check if you didn’t overdo it )

When you think it is ready ( warm enough ) , put all the chopped ingredient into the pot, excluding tomatos and avocados. These guys go into the bowl on the bottom.

Cover your tomatos and avocados in glass or wooden bowl with coconut chowder .

Voila!

NORI UNLEASHED!

INGREDIENTS :

  • nori sheet
  • romaine lettuce or any kind you like
  • tomato
  • avocado
  • celery
  • mint leaves
  • nut patte

NUT PATTE is a mix of :

  • nuts
  • sprouts
  • a bit of miso
  • cilantro
  • celtic sea salt
  • cayenne
  • a bit of hemp/olive oil to make nice consistency

Throw everything into a food processor!

TIP : Some people mind the taste of nori, or simply they didn’t have a chance to like it yet;-). What I have noticed is you can add celery – cut in long thin pieces and the smell, taste of celery will soften the smell/taste of nori roll.

TIP: To soften nori taste, you can wrap romaine lettuce around your nori roll for additional crunch!

Voila!

At this time I don’t have an access to my ceramic knife.Use it though, because this is the best choice as far as cutting your veggies!

You can purchase ceramic knives from Bryan Au HERE . He is a raw chef and I had a chance to meet him at Raw Spirit Fest 2008. Amazing guy, very shy and generous.

RAW FOOD TIP 1 : THE MAGIC OF ” YES ” WORD.

START YOUR DAY WITH A “YES” WORD!

What is your first thought after you wake up?
Is it a general YES or is it a common NO?

We all have nightmares and we all sweat during the night. It does not mean that the day is going to be a crash.

The night before your next day you are going to put an affirmation :

” YES! I start my day with a big YES word and I implement it into every moment when I usually say my habitual NO word.”

It’s general purpose is to just get up with a motivation.

But why not use it partially for a setting up a goal of making a tea instead of a coffee ? Say YES to your tea or a smoothie.

The tip of the day is :

Wake up and as you are lying in bed say to yourself: Yes, Yes, Yes!
The day will start with a good energy and every time you will hear this unfriendly lazy voice inside of you : “ I can not..” , you will be able to lock it up in the three letters of positive trained YES.

We all have days when we don’t feel like blending greens, although we know that they can carry us on for another hour, two or three.

We all sometimes feel like the fridge door are to heavy to open and we want to skip the whole raw food rutine.

But, once you force yourself to say silently or out loud the absolute YES for every constructive task you’ll be facing, the challenge will not be fatiguing anymore.

And make a smoothie before you leave home. It will save you from reaching for a nasty snack in a moment of doubts.

  • water of 1 coconut
  • meat of one coconut
  • 1 tsp of spirulina
  • 1 tsp of Tocotrienols
  • 5 leaves of kale
  • 1 apple
  • handful of frozen blueberries
  • pinch of cayenne pepper
  • pinch of celtic sea salt
  • 1 Tbs of honey/ agave syrup / yacon syrup

RAW FOOD ON A DAILY BASIS.

RAW FOOD ON A DAILY BASIS

Some people think the raw/life/superfood life style requires a lot of preparation and time.

Maybe at the beginig when one needs to deal with cravings there is a constant search for something what will give you same ” fulfillment” as your previously cooked meal.

After some time ( some say that it takes 21 days to set up a habbit) you will reach for simplicity : simple recipes, one-food-at-a-time meal, which might mean OLIVES ONLY.
At the beginning I was creating all sorts of raw dishes, just to check what kind of goodies I can make.

Now my day usually looks like this:

After I get up I have a 1/2 or a 1 liter of spring water, which I get from a source (ask people around, where is the spring in your area ). To not let the water just go through me and flush all the minerals I accumulated last day;-), I need to add good living salt to make the water “stay ” in my body. To get a flavour to my morning water I add Bach’s Flower Essences that I choose previously by using a simple test.They have a great homeopathy impact on my mood and overall health.

MORNING WATER:

* spring living water
* celtic sea salt
* bach’s flower essences
* msm
* Crystal Energy by Patrick Flanagan
* cayenne paper ( to speed up energy)
* goji berries or incan berries

In the afternoon I would snack on some fruits like apples, peaches, tomatos; all depends on a season. Some of us with candida infections shouldn’t eat sweat fruits for sometimes even 6 months. Instead of sweat apples choose tomatos, cucumber, celery to snack on. When there is a blueberries season I am totally surrounded by them!
AN EVENING SMOOTHIE:

* young coconut or spring water
* hemp nuts (blended with above , not strained)or milk thistle seeds ( blended and strained)
* Pure Synergy
* Blue-Green Algea
* kelp
* raw cacao
* celtic sea salt
* cayenne paper
* bee pollen

and lots of blueberries

Of course there is a lot of variation of my drinks. I am putting just the simple one here.

Sometimes instead of a smoothie I would have a salad, where I put spirulina, Blue-green algae also.

In a mean time I remember about having supplements like krill oil, DMAE , B-complex, Camu-Camu (vit.C), Msm, some other ones from companies like NEW CHAPTER.

Before I go to bed I have a Melatonin along with Tryptophan.
